Canadian Championship semi-final excites John Tyre

  • Sierra Leone’s John Tyre is relishing this weekend Championship semi-final showdown with Kingsman A in the Canadian Soccer League.
  • Tyre’s Scarborough will be playing their third consecutive championship semi-finals. Victory will see them reach their third final consecutively.
  • Last weekend Scarborough defeated CSC Mississauga 2-1 in overtime while Kingsman A eliminated FC Vorkuta in a penalty kick decider in the opening quarterfinal games for the Canadian Soccer League.

Scarborough and Kingsman A encounter has been described as a highly attractive tough match at the Birchmount Stadium.  Keeper John Tyre will have to be at his best for Scarborough if they are to reach their third final in a row.

“I am looking forward to a great semi-final tie against a tough side Kingsman A. It’s going to be a tough game but everyone at the club in high spirits, Tyre told FLS News.

“This is our third semi-finals since I joined the club, and hopefully we make it third final fingers cross.”

“Our strength of unity, that togetherness has been positive. I and the lads excited ahead of this game. We are ready to give our best, play football in such good spirits.”

Sierra Leone defender Sesay speaks on racism row

  • English-born Sierra Leone defender Alie Sesay has had his say on the recent racist abuse heard in Sofia during England’s 2020 Euro qualifier in Bulgaria.

Sesay playing for Arda Kardzhali in Bulgaria was watching the match at home as England players were exposed to hateful racist chanting in Sofia on Monday night during the 6-0 Euro 2020 qualifying victory.

The 25-year-old centre back, who made his Sierra Leone debut against Cameroon in Yaounde 2014, said he was “surprised” to hear the racial abuse while watching the game, but had heard nothing of reports it was a premeditated attack.

“I was surprised personally I haven’t experienced racism yet, so it was a shock to me,” Sesay told Sky Sports News.

“Bulgarian league has a lot of foreign players and speaking to a few players in my team they are disappointed that now Bulgaria has got a bit of a name. The whole of Bulgaria is being judged on it.”

He signed for the Bulgarian top-flight club in August on a one-year deal with an option to renew.

The former Leicester City academy product, since his move has featured in five matches due to delay in his international transfer.

  • Sierra Leone’s young attacker Augustus Kargbo has been named in Serie C team of the Week by Eleven Sports Italia.
  • The 20-year-old made the cut following his impressive display in Reggio Audace’s 3-1 victory over US Triestina Calcio 1918 on Sunday.

Kargbo scored a brace and provided an assist to helped his side to secure the second position on the table.

He has featured five times since joining on loan from Serie B FC Crotone until the end of the season.

Reggio Audace attacker Kargbo thrilled after brace

  • Sierra Leone’s young attacker Augustus Kargbo was delighted to bag his first brace for his club against US Triestina Calcio 1918 on Sunday.
  • Kargbo, 20, helped his Serie C side to a 3-1 win with a brace and an assist. The Crotone attacker scored in 35th, 88th minutes respectively.

As a result, Reggio moved to second place in the standings with 19 points.

He told the FSL News, “It was my first two goals for the club, and I’m over the moon.”

“Today’s match was my fifth appearance for the club since moving on loan. I am very pleased because of it one of those results that helps the team moving forward.”

“I would like to dedicate both goals to my family Idrissa kargbo, Michael Kargbo, Mamami and manager Nums Tunkara as they have supported me all through difficult times.”

He joined the club on loan from Serie B FC Crotone until the end of the season.

Saif Sporting Club sign Sierra Leone’s Fayia Kobba

  • Saif Sporting club have strengthened their forward line with the signing of Sierra Leone-born Fayia Kobba for the 2019-20 Bangladesh Football Season.
  • Kobba, 22, who scored five goals for Swedish club Sodertalje FK, has been an instrumental figure before his move.
  • Fayia Kobba arrived at Dhaka Bangladesh aiming at success on his new challenge. 

“I’m excited to have signed for such a big club here in Bangladesh. Hopefully, I can do my best for the club,” Kobba told FSL News from Bangladesh. 

“This is a new challenge for me in which I am looking forward to it.”

In Sweden, he first played for Örebro U19 and U21 and in 2017; he played for Huddinge IF, where he scored six goals during the 2017/18 season.

International Level 

Former Sierra Leone coach, Johnny Mckinstry, who recently departed Saif Sporting Club once named Kobba in his squad against Swaziland in both legs during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in 2014.

The youngster was also in the Sierra Leone U20 side against Guinea, and Ghana in the CAF African Youth Championship matches.

Keşla midfielder Kamara pleased with personal form

  • Sierra Leone international John Kamara is hoping to ride on his resurgent form this season hoping to win silverware in Azerbaijan.
  • Kamara, 30, has insisted that Keşla FK should be targeting silverware and not just the top three in the Topaz Premier League this season.
  • The former Riga FC enforcer has been happy with his form for both club and country after he made two successive starts for Sierra Leone.

The 6ft 3 inches has played in all seven league matches this season as a defensive midfielder has helped the club with three wins, two draws securing 11 points standing in the second spot.

“So far this season, I’m pleased with the way I played every game for Keşla FK. As a team, we have been doing our best to stay in the top two, but I do not think that is enough,” Kamara told FSL News.

“Last season was my worst experience here, but this season we have done well. Targeting a silverware for this club must be a priority. I hope we can achieve something this season but will require a lot of effort from us.”

Kamara added: “I think I’m improving all the time. I only have to do one thing: work and try to be better every single day.”
