Bangura’s Zurich to restart season against Young Boys

Sierra Leone skipper Umaru Bangura’s Swiss top-tier side FC Zürich will kick start the remainder of the season next Friday against title-challengers BSC Young Boys.
The Swiss Football League (SFL) will resume on June 19, officials have said with up to five substitutions permitted per match to reduce the risk of player injury.
 
The season was the first in Europe to be suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the last matches played on February 23.
 
Clubs will play two games a week to complete the remaining third of the season by August 2.
 
Bangura, who was on target against FC Aura in their 5-1 win during a friendly preparation, is expected to start away from home behind closed doors at the Stade de Suisse in the capital Bern.
 
“The ball will roll again,” the SFL said in a statement, following a meeting of its 20 clubs in Bern.

FC Zürich standing fifth before the league was halted 13 points adrift from league leaders FC St.Gallen. The season was scheduled to finish on May 21, while the 2020/21 season had been set kick off on July 17.

Mohamed Buya Turay returns to Sint-Truidense training

Sint-Truidense striker Mohamed Buya Turay was back with the main group in training on Monday ahead of the 2020/21 Belgian Jupiler Pro League season.

Turay took part in the Canaries training in two groups after weeks of individual training.

Manager Kevin Muscat was able to see his troops at work for the first time.

Before the start of training on Monday, everyone went through the temperature measurement again. Two groups were then formed. A group of 14 players trained in the morning, a second group of 13 did the same in the afternoon.

The Sierra Leone international returned to Saint-Truidense after his successful loan spell with Swedish side Djurgarden.

It was his second-half equaliser that helps Djurgarden win the Allsvenskan 2019 with Turay winning the season’s golden boot and first silverware of his career.

 Turay accounted for 15 goals to become the first Sierra Leone international to win the Golden Boot in a European league.

Medo Kamara looking forward to working with Ex-Spurs player in Finland

Former Bolton Wanderers midfielder, Mohamed Kamara, is thrilled at the prospect of working under Teemu Tainio following his return to Finland.

Kamara says he used to admire his new boss, who played for Tottenham Hotspur, as a defensive midfielder for three years between 2005 to 2008 before joining Sunderland.

“The coach of the club was someone I used to admire when he was playing for Tottenham Hotspur. He is a legend here in Finland, Kamara told FSL News.

“I’m ready to test myself all over again in the league where I started my professional career in 2006. Haka has a great history of Finnish football.

“I’ve been impressed with the development since I last played here, so I’m very much looking forward to playing in Finland again. I learned a lot the few years I was playing here.”

“I have been fortunate enough to play alongside most of the top players here in Finland. I came back to join Haka because I want to try different ideas.

 The former Partizan midfielder last played for HJK Helsinki during the 2016 Veikkausliiga season.

Kamara, who played as a defensive midfielder signed his first contract with Veikkausliiga club KuPS before the 2006 season since then he has gone on to win several accolades including the 2009 Finnish title, a back to back Serbian Superliga title during 2011, 2012 seasons.

“I won the Finnish cup with Kups where I started. I won the league with HJK. Also won league player of the year before I moved to Partizan in 2010.”

Medo, on facing Rodney Strasser’s TPS on Friday 12 June, at the Valkeakoski stadium.

 FC Haka play host to Strasser’s TPS in a friendly preparation ahead of the new season. 

“Rodney Strasser is a national teammate and a friend as well. It feels good to have him around. It feels good to have another countryman in the league. It was great past years, with the likes of Bantamoi, Hassan Milla, Kabba Samura, Obi Metzger and the list goes on.”

“Rodney is a great player and friend as well, it going be fun playing against each other. I wish him the best. I know he his going to help his team a lot.”

“He’s such a key help to them. He’ll be influential for them this season.”

Rodney Strasser debut in TPS friendly victory

Rodney Strasser made his Finnish top-flight side Turun Palloseura debut in their friendly match against PIF Parais on Saturday.

The Sierra Leonean and former Milan midfielder played the opening 56 minutes of the match, which ended in a 1-0 win for his side.

Winger Oskari Jakonen scored the only at the Veritas Stadium in Turku under heavy rain and wind. 

TPS training matches continue next week, as striped shirts travel as the guest to face fellow Sierra Leonean Medo Kamara’s side FC Haka at the Valkeakoski on Friday 12 June.

The former AC Milan player joined Finish top-flight side last month in a bid to revitalise his player career.

Kei Kamara joins protesters in Black lives matter’s demonstrations

Over George Floyd’s death, Kei Kamara joined the demonstration in Colorado.

Sierra Leone US-based striker, Kei Kamara was spotted among hundreds of demonstrators who came together in protest for the Black Lives Matter over the death of America black man George Floyd.

The Colorado rapids striker posted images of his wife and three kids alongside protesters at the Colorado State Capital on Wednesday.

Kamara and his family alongside hundreds were on the Capitol steps and surrounding area early Wednesday evening. At one point, the crowds lay on the ground for nine minutes, in honour of Floyd.

“I pray as you laugh & play during these times that one day when you have the knowledge to look back at this, you could say “Wow so this was when everything changed & everyone was treated EQUAL.” I pray that you never have to lay in this position whether, by your doing or someone else’s, he posted on twitter.

Another Sierra Leonean striker, who expressed his sadness over Floyd’s death was Mohamed Buya Turay. Last season Swedish top-flight top scorer.

He said, “The sad death of George Floyd has reminded us of the racial intolerance that exists around the world. It is a sad reality, and it must be addressed now more than ever.”

Turay added, “Racism has to stop – whether in football, at a school, or on the streets. We must all love one another and join hands in stopping a few evil elements from making the world a dark place. #BlackLivesMatter.

New challenge excites former Central Parade winger Deen

Tejan Deen has set his sights on making a quick-fire impression for Finnish Div 2 side  FC Kiffen_08. The former Central Parade player, who signed on a one-year undisclosed deal in January, is excited to play his first match for his new club. 

Deen, 25, is expected to make his debut for Kiffen FC when they start their 2020 Kakkonen campaign against EPS next Saturday 13 June at home.

Speaking for the first time since his move, the Sierra Leone-born said, “It is a great opportunity for me, and I’m excited to start,” He told FSL News.  

“Kiffen FC has been a great club. The club is one of the oldest in Finland with a good crop of talented young and experienced players.

“We have high quality experienced coaching staff so I’m looking forward to working with all of these talents and help the team.

Deen, added, “I’m prepared and motivated for the challenge. It’s a great opportunity for me to work hard, showcase my talent.”

The winger confirmed he first arrived in Europe in 2013. However, things were not all good. “I was in Sweden in 2013 but ended returning home. So, this is another breakthrough for me. I have to take advantage of this time around.”

Kiffen FC played their matches at the home ground of Helsinki called Bollis.
