Goalkeeper Alhaji Sesay jailed for ten years for sexual assault

Sierra Leone-born Alhaji Sesay face a 10-year jail time after subjected two women to serious sexual assaults in a night club toilets, a Bristol Crown Court heard, but he denied any wrongdoing.

Sesay’s professional career has been ruined as Judge Michael Cullum jailed him for ten years on Wednesday.

The young keeper was an unused substitute in the Sierra Leone side during the 1-0 defeat in Ethiopia during the 2018 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

Sesay, 22, was convicted of one count of rape and two of attempted rape against two separate women following a three week trial at Bristol Crown Court and was found guilty.

He was charged in connection with the offence in Bristol and London in August 2020. After being arrested and released under police investigation, he targeted a second woman in the female toilet of a nightclub in London, Football Sierra Leone understands.

At the sentencing hearing today, HHJ Cullum told Sesay he was a rapist and a sexual predator who used “a veneer of charm and flirtatious behaviour” to put himself close to women who he perceived to be targeting. He said his actions had significantly affected both victims, with one of them suffering severe psychological harm.

Sesay was arrested on 11 July 2019 following an incident at Mbargo nightclub, on The Triangle, Bristol, after he trapped a woman in a toilet cubicle and attempted to rape her.

Sesay was born in Sierra Leone and started playing with a local club FC Kallon before moving to Europe.

Osman Kakay may miss Sierra Leone, Lesotho Afcon showdown

  • Sierra Leone will travel to face Group L bottom side Likuena of Lesotho at Setsoto Stadium in a week time, but a game in one of the countries in the UK’s red list is a concern.

Queens Park Rangers defender, Osman Kakay, has been a key player in coach Keister’s squad in recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches.

All arrivals into the UK from outside the red-listed countries must quarantine for 10 days, a requirement that will rule Kakay from making an immediate return to his Championship side.

The right-back played the full throttle of the 1-1 first leg opener in Freetown in November 2019.

Lesotho is one of the Southern African nations, on the UK’s red list that is considered a high risk of contracting the disease.

If you have been in or through any of the countries listed below in the previous 10 days, you will be refused entry to the UK jurisdiction about the coronavirus pandemic.

However, it is still possible for Kakay who has won five capped with Sierra Leone to be included in the Benin final qualifier in Freetown later this month

The former Partick Thistle defender starts for Queens Park Rangers in Saturday’s defeat against Huddersfield.

Meanwhile, coach Keister is yet to announce his final squad for matches against Lesotho and Benin later this month.
