John Kamara heads Politehnica to a 1-0 win over Braila

John Kamara scored his first goal for his Romania Liga Two side on Saturday. 

Sierra Leone midfielder John Kamara scored his first goal for Romanian side Poli Iasi in the race to avoid relegation on Saturday.

Kamara, who recently signed for Poli Iasi, headed his new side to a 1-0 win over AFC Dacia Unirea Brăila in the 79th-minute group 2 relegation battle.

Kanu returns to training ahead of Northampton’s promotion push

Attacker Idris Kanu has confirmed his return to Northampton first-team training on Friday for the first time since February.

The Sierra Leone international suffered a fractured jaw against Walsall on February 5th and he underwent surgery on the 11 of February.

“I am back in training for the first time on Friday expected to be part of the team for my first game next week,” Kanu, 22, told FSL News.

The Cobblers are hoping to have ‘nearly everyone back from injury in the coming days as manager Jady Brady looking forward to a full squad his the race for promotion.

“It has been a big month for us in terms of the number of games we have played,” said manager Jon Brady.

“I feel, hopefully, by the end of this week, we will probably have nearly everyone back, but whether this Saturday comes too soon for them to play, only time will tell.

Kanu joined the club on loan from Peterborough in January for the rest of the season.

Kallum Cesay eyes more caps with Sierra Leone

Tottenham Development squad player Kallum Cesay snatched the headlines with two goals on his debut for Sierra Leone as the Leone Stars defeated Congo-Brazzaville 2-1 in Turkey on Tuesday at the Mardan Stadium. 

Speaking for the first time since his headline brace, he told Football Sierra Leone UK that his focus now is to keep developing in the process will enable him to play more games for the country. 

“I want to focus on my development at Tottehmham, which will help me move forward. At the same time, I am 100% looking forward to playing more games for Sierra Leone. International experience will be good for my development, ” Cesay told FSL News UK.

Kallum Cesay was one of the new names in coach John Keister’s new looks Leone Stars. He was named on the bench in the Leone Stars’ previous two fixtures in the 3-0 defeat to Togo on Thursday and Liberia’s 1-0 win on Sunday over Liberia. He was then selected to make his debut against Congo Brazaville before he became the star man of the day. 

The versatile 19-year-old started on the right side of midfield and capped an impressive performance with both his nation’s goals, one of which came from the penalty spot, as they rounded off the Antalya Cup with another victory.

“I knew I’ll get there but didn’t think in this fashion. Right now, I am happy about my contribution. It goes to show how much hard work pays. I have been waiting for my opportunity, and I knew I had to take it. I had to go out there and do something for myself, my country, for my people.” 

He concluded by saying his dream is to play in one of the big leagues in Europe. “Presently happy with my development at Tottenham but my target in getting into the first team or play for one of the top clubs in Europe where I will be happy.”

In the campaign, he has made 21 appearances in all competitions before earning a place on the Tottenham first-team bench twice in the UEFA Europa Conference League, having also featured for our senior side in pre-season.

Demba Kamara was pleased after Sierra Leone’s debut

Italy-based Sierra Leone International Demba Kamara has expressed his delight after making his international debut in a 1-0 win over Liberia at the Mardan Stadium in Antalya, Turkey, on Sunday.

Bolton Wanderers striker Amadou Bakayoko’s header for his first international goal in the 30th-minutes was enough to earn Leone Stars their first win in Turkey.

Kamara, 19, who joined the Italian side in August last year, has said he was elated to have made his Sierra Leone debut.

He was introduced for injured Yeami Dunia just after the break during Sierra Leone matchday two contest with Liberia.

“I want to say thanks to Allah for making this possible. Thanks to the Sierra Leone Football Association, the coaching team for believing in me,” Kamara told FSL news.

“I was happy and I am looking forward to helping the team further if selected by the technical team.”

Sierra Leone will wrap up their friendly games against Congo Brazzaville on the 29th of March while Liberia takes on Burundi on the same day.

Rodney Michael delighted after pens deal with Indy Eleven

Sierra Leone-born Rodney Michael has expressed his delight after joining the USL Championship side on Wednesday. The club announced it had acquired the former Sierra Leone U20 player via transfer from USL League One club South Georgia Tormenta FC. Michael, 22, joins Indy Eleven after impressing while on trial during the team’s preseason. “It means a lot to join such an amazing club in a very competitive league. Moving to a higher level will definitely help my development as a footballer. I’m ready to face any challenges that may come my way. Extremely excited to get started with Indy Eleven,” he told FSL News.

Rodney began his professional career last year with Tormenta FC, where he originally played for the club’s USL League Two side to retain his final season of collegiate eligibility before eventually being offered a professional contract to Tormenta FC’s League One squad. Michael made 16 appearances for Tormenta FC and recorded one goal, two assists and 13 key passes for the side.

Michael spent his college career with UC Santa Barbara, wherein three seasons with the Gauchos he started all but one of his 59 appearances, netted 23 goals, and tallied 15 assists.

Watford’s Kamil Conteh speaks ahead of Togo cracker

One of coach John Keister’s new inclusion Kamil Conteh pictured with team captain Steven Caulker, has admitted his delight as he set to make his Sierra Leone debut in Turkey.

Kamil Conteh, 19, who opened his account for Braintree Town in the National League South against Hungerford Town on February 19th, says he has been great around experienced around the National team.

The Watford Under-23s midfielder joined the Iron last month on loan, weeks after making his first-team debut against Leicester City in the FA Cup, and he has made a bright start to life in Essex.

Speaking after Leone Stars’ final training at the Sueno Sports Centre on Wednesday, he said, “I’m delighted to be here for the first time as i have enjoyed every moment around the boys.”

The 19-year old says playing for Sierra Leone is something he will always relish. “I’m here to play and show everyone what I am about trying to help the team as much as possible. I am relishing the chance to be a great player for Sierra Leone.”

He is in line to feature for the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone for the first time on Thursday after showing a glimpse of what he can do doing training sessions.

Meanwhile, Sierra Leone will face Togo at the Mardan multi-purpose stadium in Aksu, AntalyaTurkey

The stadium that is mainly used for football matches has hosted the 2008 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship, including the final.
