Idris Kanu nets in Barnet’s defeat to Oldham

Sierra Leone striker Idris Kanu  Idris Kanu recorded his eighth goal of the season in Barnet‘s 3-1 defeat to Oldham Athletic AFC on Tuesday at the Hive stadium.

Match Recap – Oldham proved too strong as they put a dent in Barnet’s promotion drives with a 3-1 National League win at The Hive.

The visitors scored the opener in the opening five minutes through Ellis Chapman in the crowded penalty area.

Idris Kanu levelled from close range five minutes before the break. However, Oldham was back in front just after the hour when play was allowed to continue after Alex Reid collided with Barnet goalkeeper Aymen Azaze and Mike Fondop capitalised to fire into the net.

After Fondop had another ruled out for offside, Barnet was awarded a penalty for handball, but Magnus Norman denied Dale Gorman from the penalty spot, and 41-year-old defender Peter Clarke finished off the scoring in stoppage time.

The defeat means the Bees remain in 4th place ahead of Friday’s tie against Southend, who are just three points adrift.

Kanu, 23, has scored in back-to-back matches for Barnet in three days – the former Peterborough attacker was on target in their 4-1 triumph over Aldershot Town last Saturday.

He has featured in 32 matches for his National League side this campaign.
