Kei Kamara’s brace helps Fire beat Minnesota United

Major League Soccer veteran Kei Kamara scored a brace to helped sealed Chicago Fire’s first home win of the 2023 season Saturday night.

His 24th and 36th-minute goals secured Fire a 2-1 victory over previously-undefeated Minnesota United FC at Soldier Field.

The 38-old-old first-half brace increased Kamara’s career tally of MLS regular-season goals to 142, remaining third on the league’s all-time scoring list and moving just three behind Landon Donovan (145), according to MLS records.

The league and US men’s national team legend holds second place after last playing for the LA Galaxy in 2016. Even though the 38-year-old Kamara could soon surpass Donovan, he was all about the collective when reflecting postgame.

Playing in his 18th MLS season, Kamara recorded his third of the season in his fifth appearance after a trade from CF Montréal in February.

The three experts were Monika Staab, a Women’s Football Director in Saudi Arabia, Jules MCgeever, a UEFA Marketing Expert and Eva Pasquier, Head of International Relations at UEFA.

This comes after the Sierra Leone Football Association partnering with UEFA, successfully concluded a two-day training workshop for female football administrators, coaches, female sports journalists and referees at the Atlantic Lumley Hotel in Freetown on Thursday, April 6.

Also present in the discussions was a cross-section of the training participants who were allowed to pass on their concerns, questions and suggestions to the leadership of the FA.

Sierra Leone drop to 117th in April Fifa ranking

Despite securing four points in the latest African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sao Tome, Sierra Leone dropped in the latest Fifa ranking from 116th to 117th.

It comes after John Keister’s team dropped points at home in last month’s Afcon qualifiers’ first leg against lowly-rated Sao Tome.

However, in the return leg, Sierra Leone registered its first victory in the African Cup of Nations Qualifying Group A campaign defeating Sao Tome 2-0 to move two points behind leaders Guinea Bissau.

Both sides played to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday, but on matchday four, Sierra Leone looked more determined to keep their qualification campaign alive.

Defender Abubakarr Samura scored the opener in the 7th minute from a corner the Sao Tome defence failed to clear.

After controlling much of the first 20 minutes, RB Linense midfielder Alhassan Koroma scored a decent long-range to double Sierra Leone’s lead in the 28 minutes.

The Qualifiers will continue in June when Sierra Leone hosts Nigeria.

Kevin Wright makes first start for Oakland Roots

Sierra Leone left-back Kevin Wright played the full throttle of the game as Oakland Roots defeated El Farolito 3-1 as they advanced to Round Three of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

Johnny Rodriguez scored his second goal in as many games, and Wolfgang Prentice added a brace of goals himself Tuesday night at Pioneer Stadium on the CSU East Bay campus.

The home comfortably defeated El Farolito of the National Premier Soccer League by a final score of 3-1 to advance to Round Three of the U.S. Open Cup.

Oakland Roots opened the scoring at the 12-minute mark when Johnny Rodriguez headed the ball home on a set piece after drawing the initial foul.

Following goals in the 19th and 24th minutes by Oakland Roots winger Wolfgang Prentice, Oakland shifted their playing style to a more defensive-minded effort, allowing only one goal to El Farolito – a penalty kick in the 45th minute of the opening half.

Oakland Roots will return to USL Championship play this weekend as the squad travels to Indianapolis to face Indy Eleven on Saturday, April 8th. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 PM PT Pacific time.
